Crews tackle fire at nursing home

Freshfields Nursing Home
Emergency services moved 47 residents and staff to safety

More than 35 firefighters tackled a fire at an old people's home in Devon.

Emergency services were called to Freshfields nursing home in Agaton Road, Plymouth, just after 1700 BST.

A police spokesman said neighbours had helped at the scene by providing temporary accommodation for the home's residents.

It is believed the fire was caused by a television. One person was taken to Derriford Hospital suffering from the effects of breathing in smoke.

Fire, police and ambulance personnel helped to move the nursing home's 47 residents and staff to safety.
