Stranded sick dolphin is put down

A dolphin found stranded on a north Cornwall beach has been put down after it was found to be ill.

Falmouth Coastguard said vets were called in to Portreach beach to check the young dolphin's health.

Members of the Marine Strandings Network, from Cornwall Wildlife Trust, tried to save the mammal but it was found to be sick.

Eighty dolphins, including 26 that died after being trapped in a creek, have been stranded in Cornwall this year.
