Grant to protect listed building

The Walronds
The council says the building is "exceptionally important" to the town

A Grade I listed building in Devon has been awarded a £100,000 council grant to help carry out urgent repairs.

The Walronds 16th Century town house in Cullompton, is on English Heritage's buildings at risk register.

The Mid Devon District Council grant was awarded to Walronds Preservation Trust towards a £2.4m funding package to repair and restore the building.

English Heritage said the town house, with its "exceptional interiors", was at risk from water penetration.

Polly Colthorpe, from the district council, said: "The Walronds is an exceptionally important building for Cullompton, for Mid Devon and indeed for the country."
