'Devastation' as show cancelled

Okehampton Show
Between 12,000 and 14,000 visitors were expected

Bad weather has forced Devon's Okehampton Show to be cancelled for the second year in a row.

The decision to call-off the show - which was due to be held on Thursday - was taken on Wednesday afternoon.

"It is just unimaginable to have to cancel two years in a row," said Gilly Oliver, secretary of the one-day show.

She said between 12,000 and 14,000 visitors had been expected to arrive at the Stoney Park Showground for the 102nd agricultural show.

"The ground conditions are just too bad and we were worried about the parking, it's just devastating," said Mrs Oliver.
