Unconscious man pulled from river

A man has been pulled to safety from a Devon river in a dramatic rescue.

Emergency services were called to the scene after a man was seen falling into the River Dart near the Brutus Bridge in Totnes on Wednesday evening.

A police officer and ambulance staff held the unconscious man's head above water for about 45 minutes until firefighters rescued him.

The 43-year-old was taken to Torbay Hospital. His injuries are not thought to be life-threatening.

Police believe the man had been drinking.
