Car theft attempt ends up tree

Two youths accused of attempting to steal a car climbed a tree before being coaxed down by police.

Officers were called to Chapel Hill in Cullompton, Devon, after a member of the public reported the incident.

They used a sniffer dog to follow the trail of the two 16-year-olds along a riverbank, and found them up a tree.

Police said they were "encouraged" to come down and subsequently arrested. They have been released on bail until 25 July.
