A Devon hotel was evacuated twice after a suspected gas leak followed a suspicious fire on Tuesday night.
Fire crews were called to the Marine Hotel in Salcombe after a blaze in the staff quarters spread onto the roof.
The fire was brought under control and no-one was injured. An investigation into the incident has begun.
Guests were asked to leave a second time when a gas leak was discovered. Nearby homes were also cleared and the road closed until the leak was sealed.
The road has been reopened and residents allowed to return to their homes.
A hotel spokeswoman said its guests were allowed back about 1100 BST.
