Stone lands role in comedy film

The singer wants the writers to make her role as funny as possible

Devon soul diva Joss Stone has landed a role in a new comedy film, being shot in Torbay this summer.

The 20-year-old singer will also write and perform the soundtrack to the movie called Snappers.

It tells the story of an actress pursued by paparazzi while shooting a film on the English Riviera.

The film's director, George Bamby, made contact with Stone, by turning up on her doorstep and pretending to be a member of the paparazzi.

"He knocked on my door and said: 'I've been sent down here by Hello magazine and I'm not allowed to come back until I've got a picture'," she told BBC News.

Bamby persuaded her to take her dogs out for a walk so he could take pictures of her, before revealing the true nature of his visit.

Stone, who claims to have done "about five minutes of acting", said she has not read the script but she has told the film's writers she is happy for them to make her role funny or controversial.

"I like making fun of myself," she said.

"Everything I do is for fun and if I end up being any good at it, then I could carry on.

"Even when I started singing, it was just a bit of a laugh."

The singer-songwriter from Ashill, near Exeter, has recently appeared in the Cadbury's Flake commercial.

The film also stars 47-year-old actress Caroline Quentin, well known for her role as Gary's long-suffering girlfriend Dorothy in the sitcom Men Behaving Badly.
