A Devon cyclist is setting off on an ambitious fundraising trip from the UK to New Zealand.
Roger Hicks, 57, from Appledore, near Tiverton, is taking a year off work to cycle 10,500 miles from Wellington in Somerset to Wellington in New Zealand.
He will be raising money for the Cystic Fibrosis Trust and the Fragile X Society.
He aims to arrive in New Zealand by Christmas and stay with his daughter in Napier on the North Island.
"I'll be cycling for around 10,500 miles and aim to average about 50 miles a day," said Mr Hicks, who raised £1,800 for the cystic fibrosis charity with a bike ride from John O'Groats to Land's End in November 2001.
His journey, which he has dubbed the 'Wellython', will take him to the other side of the globe via Europe, the Middle East, including Iran, South East Asia and Papua New Guinea.
