Torbay pines for 'Riviera' future
Torquay palm trees
Torbay's symbolic palms are safe, says the mayor
Council chiefs in Torbay are planning a makeover with hundreds of pine trees lining the main road into the resort.

A council document outlines how the Monterey pine tree could "capture the essence" of the area and turn the town into the "new English Riviera".

The report says wherever possible, avenues, groves and woodlands of pines should be planted.

But the future of the resort's palm trees - a symbol of the town - remains safe, said mayor Nick Bye.
