Fish market revamp 'not delayed'
Brixham
The revamped fish market should be completed within a year
Ambitious plans to regenerate a Devon fish market will not be delayed, a council has said.

Torbay Council denied changes to funding could hold up the multi-million pound project for Brixham.

The £8.8m revamp aims to protect the historic town's fishing industry, with a further £8m to develop housing, offices, leisure and retail facilities.

The council said the project had now been split into two contracts, but the time scale was unchanged.

Councillor Derek Mills said the entire development should be completed within three years, with the fish market finished in about 12 months.

He said the decision to separate the project had been made because £7m of grant money had to be spent by September in order to meet deadlines imposed by the EU.
