Council goes green with turbines

The turbines power 200 of the council's computers

A Devon council has put three wind turbines on its roof to reduce its impact on climate change.

The turbines have been linked in to Exeter City Council's power supply to help reduce the amount of electricity needed from other sources.

The wind turbines, which each measure 4m (13.1ft)in height and have a 1.75m (5.7ft) turbine span are able to power 200 of the council's computers.

It has also replaced oil-fuelled boilers with ones using wood pellets.

Councillor Val Dixon said: "This is yet another good example of how large organisations like the council can do their bit to save the environment."
