Oxygen for dog owner as pet stuck
An emotional dog owner had to be given oxygen by the emergency services when her heavily pregnant Chihuahua got stuck under a shed in Devon.

A fire crew was called to a property in Longmead Road in Paignton on Saturday morning following reports of the dog being stuck.

Firefighters were eventually able to release the Chihuahua by cutting away the floor of the large shed.

The dog was uninjured and her owner was fine after being given the oxygen.

As far as I can make out the dog was in the early stages of labour
Group Manager Tony Jones

Group Manager Tony Jones said when the two firefighters arrived they decided to cut away the floor of the shed.

"As far as I can make out the dog was in the early stages of labour which was maybe why she was trying to find somewhere to hide," he said.

After about 45 minutes the team was able to see the dog who, with some coaxing from her owner, eventually came out of the hole the way she had gone in.

Mr Jones added that the dog's owner had taken the pet to be checked by a vet and that although she was very upset she was also "extremely relieved."
