Fireworks contest thrills crowds
British Firework Championships, Plymouth
It is the 11th year the competition has been held in Plymouth
Thousands of people lined vantage points around Plymouth Sound on Tuesday night to watch the start of the British Firework Championships.

Six professional firework companies are competing in the annual contest.

Spectators who braved the poor weather were entertained as the first three companies put on 10-minute displays.

The judges will make their decision after the three remaining companies display their pyrotechnic capabilities, starting at 2130 BST.

Members of the public have been encouraged to use the city's park-and-ride bus services from Roborough, Coypool and Milehouse.

It is the competition's 11th year in Plymouth.
