The Devon Air Ambulance Trust has reached a landmark after it responded to its 10,000th call-out on Saturday.
A woman was airlifted to the Royal Devon and Exeter Hospital after being trampled by cows in a field in East Devon. She remains in intensive care.
The trust has been operating for the past 15 years and runs two air ambulances in the county.
Chief executive Lynn Paver said things had changed drastically over the years as they used to fly only twice a week.
She said the trust would reach the 20,000th call-out a lot quicker because both helicopters would now operate seven days a week.
"There is always a case for the helicopter to be called, certainly to the road traffic accidents - we attend most of those and the rural community definitely use us more," she said.
