A Devon hospital performed its highest ever number of kidney transplants in the last year.
The number of kidney transplants at Derriford Hospital in Plymouth has nearly doubled in the past four years, with 53 carried out in 2006.
Derriford did 30 transplants in 2001, 38 in 2004 and 51 by 2005.
Jacob Akoh, Clinical Director for Surgery and Renal Services said it followed an increase in the ways in which organs could be donated.
Derriford first started carrying out the operation in 1973.
