Wife murder plot man wins appeal
A pub landlord jailed for attempting to recruit two men to kill his estranged wife has won the first stage of his appeal.

Malcolm John Winter, 62, was jailed for plotting the death of Elizabeth Winter at their pub in South Brent, Devon.

Mrs Winter had injunctions banning him from the London Inn and the village in which he then lived.

The case will now go forward for a hearing before the Criminal Appeal Court. No date has as yet been set.

Mr Winter was convicted of two counts of soliciting to murder and one of attempting to pervert the course of justice at Plymouth Crown Court on 30 October, 2006.

He was sentenced to a seven years in jail.

Mr Winter was arrested on 9 January by Devon and Cornwall police as he allegedly lay in wait for his wife in the London Inn.
