Yes man to give show of support
Steve Howe
The concert will help fund the villagers' deposit on the property
The guitarist of 1970s group Yes is backing a village campaign to takeover a Devon post office.

Steve Howe is to play a concert at Sandford Parish Hall on Friday night to raise money for the local action group's Post Office Project.

They hope to turn the post office into a shop selling local produce, with a post office, information point and internet connection.

Proceeds of the 75-minute solo performance will go to the campaign.

Joan and Trevor Newstead who run the Sandford Post Office are about to retire and have put the property on the market

The 300-strong Sandford Area Community Action (SACA) group was formed to buy the shop.

They need £12,000 to put down a deposit on the shop.

The group's initial application for lottery funding towards the purchase of the building has been approved and the committee has also approached the Rural Enterprise Scheme as well as banks and building societies.

Mr Howe is to do the show ahead of Yes' tour of America and Asia.

A concert by local band Show of Hands helped boost the appeal by £1,000.
