Forest trails encourage activity
Woods
The forest has cycle trails for all ages and abilities
One of the country's first activity forests has opened in Devon.

Nearly 1.5m has been spent providing 25 miles (40km) of trails at Haldon Forest near Exeter, for walkers, cyclists and horse riders.

They include a play trail with musical instruments made from wood, a butterfly and a sensory trail. All the trails are away from sensitive wildlife areas.

Sport England has provided 50% of the funding and showers are provided for people to freshen up after exercising.

Active lifestyle

Ian Lynch, the project manager, said it will hopefully encourage people to take up exercise and allow better use to be made of the forest.

He told BBC News: "We can offer a great resource to people to help them participate in a more active lifestyle.

"You can come out and enjoy yourself and get fit and healthy."

Three cycle trails will cater for all ages and abilities, including a challenging slope for the most experienced mountain bikers.
