Puppy rescued from 20m mineshaft
A Jack Russell puppy was rescued by firefighters after falling nearly 20 metres down a disused mine shaft.

Five-month-old Murphy had wriggled under a wire and fell into the shaft at Hemerdon, near Plymouth, on Saturday.

Owner Kevin Baker said: "I heard him screaming and crying. I had a look down and could see he had just dropped down the shaft."

It took more than two hours to bring the puppy up, with a firefighter lowered down the shaft on a rope.

The frightened dog was found on a ledge just one metre from the bottom of the shaft.

Mr Baker praised the firefighters for doing a "brilliant job".
