Probe into cliff railway accident
Babbacombe Cliff Railway
The cliff railway opened in 1926
An investigation is under way after an accident at a cliff railway in south Devon.

The incident happened at Babbacombe Cliff Railway in Torquay, which is currently being refurbished.

A chassis, which carries one of the carriages, broke free and ran out of control hitting the station at the bottom of the cliff.

No-one was hurt and the cause of the accident is now being looked into by the Health and Safety Executive.

The railway is currently closed for refurbishment and is due to re-open to the public next month.

It started operating in 1926 and carries more than 250,000 passengers a year.
