Warship joining allied exercise
The crew of a Plymouth-based warship are preparing to take part in a multinational military exercise in the North Atlantic.

HMS Northumberland, one of the Royal Navy's most technologically advanced warships, will join the allied navies' Neptune Warrior exercise.

The course in the next few weeks will include ships from the United States, Germany and Denmark.

The exercise aims to improve operations between allied navies.

Neptune Warrior is normally held three times a year for allied navies.

The HMS Northumberland is based at Devonport. She was launched in 1992 and is armed with the Sea Wolf surface-to-air missile system, Harpoon anti-ship missiles and anti-submarine torpedoes.
