Cruise passengers could sail directly into the Barbican
There are plans to build a new £1m pontoon at the Barbican in Plymouth.

The new structure, near the Mayflower Steps, would allow overseas visitors to be transferred from cruise liners on to the historic Barbican.

The news follows a funding agreement by English Partnerships and the Single Regeneration Budget.

Cattewater Harbourmaster Tim Charlesworth said: "It's good news for Plymouth and will give an excellent welcome to the city."

The plans, due to be finalised on Monday, will be subject to final agreement by Plymouth City Council.
