Drop in cost of average SW house
The average cost of buying a house in the South West has dropped by more than 4% in a month, according to a report.

Figures from property group Rightmove.co.uk showed the average price of a house in Devon and Cornwall in December was 214,413.

The January price fell to 205,667 - a monthly change of about 4.1%. It is the biggest drop in the country.

Rightmove spokesman Miles Shipside said: "The geographic split is quite marked this month."

However, the annual figures for the South West show a 1.3% increase in house prices.

The report echoes a survey released by the Office of the Deputy Prime Minister, which shows house price inflation has varied in different parts of the UK.
