Casting off for summer festival

Knitting
Organisers are looking for hand knitters of all ages and abilities

People in Devon are being urged to get knitting to create a special knitted wall hanging for a summer festival.

Textile designer Doreen Finlay-Davies is leading the project to produce the hanging as part of July's Buckfastleigh Wool & Leather Festival.

During the event there will be a knitting workshop, funded by the lottery, based in the town hall.

The public will be able to watch the work in progress and the finished hanging will be given to the town.

'Related skills'

Mrs. Finlay-Davies said: "Each person will be able to produce a small panel.

"These will be joined together to create the finished hanging."

She said they were looking for hand knitters of all ages and abilities.

"I hope that participants will bring related skills and experience in things like embroidery, sewing, quilting and applique with which to enhance the work."

The aim is to create images of the wool festival using materials such as leather and silk in addition to the knitting.
