New director for young services

Devon is to get its first ever director of children and young people's services, a council has announced.

Devon County Council is creating the role so education and children's social services are more integrated.

The new director will be Anne Whiteley, who currently manages the authority's children's department.

The council is warning that it will not mean more money for services, but it should offer a more unified approach to schooling and welfare of young people.
