Man, 87, accused of wife's murder

An 87-year-old man has been charged with the murder of his 86-year-old wife in Devon.

Police discovered the body of Irene Powell after her husband's car crashed into the wall of a church.

The body was found at a bungalow in Hyne Town, Strete, on 3 November. It was revealed she had suffered chest and head injuries.

Herbert Powell was taken into police custody and charged. He is due to appear before Plymouth Magistrates.

An inquest into Mrs Powell's death was opened and adjourned in Torquay.
