Sign language interpreters needed
A conference is being held in Devon to raise awareness about sign language.

British Sign Language was officially recognised as a language two years ago by the UK Government, although it has evolved over hundreds of years.

Sign language is the first language of about 700 people in the county, but there are only eight interpreters in Devon and Cornwall and more are needed.

The conference could lead to a local charter being drawn up to improve access and rights for deaf people.
