Police in Holsworthy, Devon, have begun an investigation after thieves stole a disability scooter from a pub car park.
The incident happened at the Square at Week St Mary on Tuesday night.
The 67-year-old victim has very limited mobility and is now effectively housebound after the theft of the £1,000 blue vehicle.
Police say the incident had caused the owner great distress and upset. Officers are asking witnesses for help in finding the scooter.
PC Dave Monkton of Bude police, said: "This is a heartless crime as the offender would have known the owner to be disabled and has given no consideration to the pain that this theft has caused."
