A police officer has died after collapsing during a charity cycle ride in north Devon.
About 50 officers were taking part in the ride from Lynton Police station on Wednesday when Det Insp Tony Mead from Barnstaple collapsed. He later died.
The 100-mile ride, stopping at each police station in north Devon was organised to raise money for CLIC and Cancer research UK.
Det Insp Mead, who was 37, leaves a wife and four-month-old son.
Det Insp Mead served his probationary period at Charles Cross Police station before moving to Newquay.
He joined the CID at Redruth and Truro before being promoted to Sergeant at Ilfracombe.
His next posting was as Detective Sergeant at Barnstaple and from there he was promoted to inspector at Plymouth and then moved to the Victim Centred Crime Unit at Middlemoor.
His last move was to Barnstaple as Detective Inspector.
