Petition objecting to kebab shop
More than 150 people have signed a petition objecting to plans for a kebab shop in a north Devon town.

Residents in Newport in Barnstaple are concerned a shop in would be detrimental to the neighbourhood.

The planning application seeks permission for a change of use of the currently empty premises from a retail shop to a food and drink shop.

Planning officers have recommended a decision is delegated from councillors to the council planning manager.

Residents say they are worried about the effect on traffic, litter and noise pollution, particularly at night.

Planning officers pointed out that Newport Road was a relatively busy street and such shop would not be out of place.
