The family will journey from Newton Abbot to Plymouth
The family of the Devon train driver killed in the Berkshire rail crash are to travel by train for the first time since his death.

Stan Martin's family hope it will help them come to terms with the tragedy and enhance public confidence in trains.

His widow Deborah, son James and daughter Louise will travel from Newton Abbot to Plymouth on Saturday.

Mr Martin was at the controls of the First Great Western service which hit a car on a level crossing on 6 November.

'Necessary' step

Mr Martin's family will be shown a special rail simulator at Plymouth station which is used by train drivers.

Pc Bob Goodman, who has been supporting the family since the accident, said they felt strongly it was "necessary" for them to get back on the train.

He said as well as trying to come to terms with the accident it was a way of telling the public the railways were safe.
