Murata blames Far East competition
A Plymouth electronics firm is closing with the loss of 120 jobs.

Murata Manufacturing in Estover says an increasing number of customers have switched to suppliers nearer their new bases in the Far East.

Production at the plant which makes ceramic chip capacitors will be run down before the site closes completely in November.

Workers are being offered redundancy payments and help to find alternative employment.

Director John James said: "The decision has been particular difficult.

"The strong performance of the Plymouth factory has been instrumental in supporting the growth of Murata in Europe.

"It is no reflection on the efforts of the Plymouth staff and their achievements."
