Mother who denied access jailed
A mother from north Devon has been jailed for three months because she refused to give her estranged partner access to their son.

The case comes as the government is preparing to crack down on mothers who flout contact orders.

The mother and father, who cannot be identified for legal reasons, have a young son, but the mother denied her former partner access to him.

The three-month sentence handed out at Barnstaple County Court is thought to be one of the longest handed out for such an offence.

The father of the boy is a member of the campaigning group Families Need Fathers, and the group said it welcomed the sentence.
