Dockyard protesters charged
Two peace activists have been charged with obstructing the highway following a protest outside Devonport Dockyard in Plymouth.

A 31-year-old man from Falmouth, Cornwall, and a 46-year-old woman from Faslane, Scotland, were bailed to appear before Plymouth magistrates on 22 October.

They were arrested after staging a sit-down in the road outside the yard on Monday where Trident nuclear submarine HMS Vanguard is undergoing a refit.

About 50 members of Trident Ploughshares staged the demonstration, and about 20 officers from Devon and Cornwall Police were at the scene, keeping traffic flowing into the dockyard.

The demonstration was the culmination of a five-day Trident Ploughshares international disarmament camp in the city.
