Illegal school parking targeted

Pedestrians are being put in danger by parents parking illegally near schools in Derbyshire, police have said.

Officers said there have been a number of "near misses" around schools in the Hadfield and Tintwistle areas due to cars restricting the view of the road.

They said residents have also complained of careless driving around school gates.

Police will be patrolling the affected areas and issuing fixed penalty notices for illegal parking where appropriate.

'No easy solution'

Police Community Support Officer (PCSO) Brian Buller said: "Parking outside of schools during pick-up and drop-off times is an issue for many schools in the area, but inconsiderate and irresponsible parking and driving is putting youngsters at risk.

"We would like to urge parents and other drivers to respect local residents and other road users by taking extra care during those peak times outside of schools.

"There is no easy solution but it would help if parents could allow a bit more time to drop-off or collect their children, parked a little further away from the school gates or considered other options such as walking or public transport."
