Warning over vehicle theft surge

Police in Derbyshire are putting on extra patrols after a series of thefts from vehicles.

Officers said they had reports of 34 incidents between 9 November and 11 November in Chesterfield and the north west of the county.

A third of the vehicles had sat navs stolen, a third were entered but had nothing stolen and items like purses and laptops were taken from others.

Drivers have been reminded to keep valuables out of sight.

Police have also asked for anyone with information on the crimes to come forward.
