Review follows planning blunder

Dozens of planning decisions in Derby will be re-examined after the city council admitted it had not followed correct procedures.

This includes a mental health hospital under construction in Wilmorton which has been the focus of local opposition.

The council failed properly to advertise the 60 projects in the local press - which is a legal requirement.

A panel is now to go through each application to decide whether the planning permission should stand.

Public consultation

Deputy leader of the council Lucy Care admitted some people could feel they had not had their chance to have a say.

She said they were now working closely with the Local Government Ombudsman to review the situation.

In the case of the Wilmorton hospital, she added, action was already being taken.

"We will consult local people up to 300m away, which covers about half of Wilmorton, and those people should be getting a letter in the next week or so giving them 21 days to give their comments.

"We will then take their comments and the planning officers assessment of the application back to the planning committee," she said.
