Tram site celebrates anniversary

The water car from Cardiff
The tram was kept in storage and has never been used

Staff at a Derbyshire attraction have celebrated its 50th anniversary by re-enacting the arrival of their first ever exhibit.

The first arrival at the Crich Tramway village was a water car from Cardiff - which was delivered by crane.

The car, which has been kept in storage ever since, has been restored as part of the golden jubilee celebrations.

Events are being held over the bank holiday weekend to celebrate the landmark anniversary.

Curator Glynn Wilton said: "It must be unbelievable for the people who were here 50 years ago on a site which had one water tap and nothing else.

"It was just a grassy railway cutting, but now we have the buildings and have been recognised nationally as a centre of excellence."
