Airport ready for festive getaway

Staff at East Midlands Airport are urging passengers to allow extra time for their journeys as the Christmas getaway begins.

Airport bosses said they are expecting about 160,000 people to travel through the airport during the festive break.

Passengers are also asked to check security restrictions before arriving at the airport, especially if they are taking Christmas gifts and decorations.

Any presents being carried in hand luggage should be unwrapped.

Popular destinations

Penny Coates, managing director, said: "In the run up to the festive period we are asking customers to prepare well in advance and check hand baggage restrictions before arriving at the airport.

"Passengers can reduce stress levels by arriving in plenty of time and checking travel documents before coming to the airport.

"We recommend that passengers arrive at least two hours prior to departure to allow for poor weather and heavy traffic."

The most popular destinations for Christmas breaks from East Midlands Airport are Dublin and the Canary Islands.
