Group rescued from Kinder Scout

A group of four people who got lost in the Peak District during a snowstorm have been rescued, police said.

Mountain rescue teams were called out after the group contacted police from Kinder Scout and asked for help.

The three men and one woman from Derby, aged between 20 and 27 years old, had set off at about 2000 GMT on Wednesday.

The walkers were very cold and "soaked to the skin", but otherwise not injured, a Kinder Mountain Rescue spokesman said.

The group contacted Derbyshire Police just before 0500 GMT and were brought to safety several hours later.

About 40 mountain rescue volunteers and a rescue dog were involved in the search.

Darren Wallis, mountain rescue leader, said: "We didn't need to stretcher them out but brought them back to the ambulance... then to a hut where we warmed them up and provided them with dry clothing as they were soaked to the skin and very cold.

"They should have been better prepared for the weather conditions."

A Derbyshire Police spokeswoman said: "We strongly advise walkers not to go out in the evenings, no matter how well equipped they are."
