Taxi driver hit on head with gun

A taxi driver from Derby is recovering at home after being struck over the head with what is believed to have been a handgun.

Two men attacked him at 2245 GMT on Friday on Cameron Road in Normanton.

They then drove off in his car, a red Toyota Avensis, with the Western Taxi logo. The cab driver was taken to hospital, but was not seriously hurt.

Det Sgt Dave Brown said the area would have been busy at the time of the attack and appealed for more witnesses.

He said: "We are hopeful that obviously there are witnesses out there who have seen this, who have yet to contact the police and we obviously would urge members of the public to get in touch with us.

"Any information that they can give to us is going to be greatly appreciated."
