Police investigating the shooting of a Derby teenager have been given another 36 hours to hold a man.

Kadeem Blackwood, 15, died after being shot in the chest near a park in Sunnyhill on Tuesday night during what police said was an argument.

A 19-year-old man was arrested on Wednesday and on Thursday evening officers were granted another 36 hours to continue questioning him.

Detectives said they were still looking for other people over the incident.

A post-mortem examination showed Mr Blackwood died from a single shotgun wound.

The investigating team declined to confirm any lines of enquiry but praised the level of co-operation from the community.

Asst Chf Cons Peter Goodman said: "What is starting to become clear from our enquiries in the community, from people who have given us statements, is that this appears to have started out as a dispute between two individuals.....which has escalated quickly and tragically into this shooting."

Mr Blackwood's family also asked witnesses to come forward.

His family released a statement saying they were "devastated about the loss of their precious young boy".

Police say it is too early to confirm if Kadeem Blackwood's death was gang-related.
