Liam Connell and Andrew Sellers
Police said the car was involved in some overtaking before the crash

A car in which two Derbyshire teenagers died was out of control just before it crashed, police have revealed.

Andrew Sellers, 18, and his passenger Liam Connell, 16, both from Ashbourne, died when their Vauxhall Corsa collided with another car on the A52 on Monday.

Early investigations have found they crossed onto the opposite side of the road before the head-on crash.

Alice Greenwood, 12, from Pontefract, West Yorkshire, died in the other car. Her mother and sister were injured.

Juliette Greenwood, 45, is still in hospital but Clara, six, has been released.

Insp Jim Allen, from Derbyshire Police, appealed for more information.

"We know the Vauxhall Corsa was travelling with some other vehicles from Derby and we know it was was involved in some overtaking prior to the crash," he said.

"We are keen to speak to drivers of these vehicles who were overtaken, who can perhaps give us an indication as to how the vehicle was being driven," he said.
