Three killed in head-on collision

Two teenagers and a 12-year-old girl died in the accident

A 12-year-old girl who was one of three people killed in a crash on the A52 in Derbyshire has been identified.

Alice Greenwood was in the back of a Volkswagen Passat involved in a head-on collision with a Vauxhall Corsa near Kirk Langley on Monday night.

Her mother Juliette, 45, the driver, was seriously injured and her sister Clara, six, was also hurt. The family is from Pontefract, west Yorkshire.

Two males in the Corsa, aged 18 and 16, from Ashbourne, were killed.

The collision, which took place just before 2100 BST, closed the road for four hours.

'Horrendous scene'

Alice Greenwood was taken to hospital but died of her injuries.

She was formally identified by her father, Ian.

Her mother is in intensive care at Derbyshire Royal Infirmary while the family's younger daughter is in Queen's Medical Centre in Nottingham.

Sgt Andy Carmichael, of Derbyshire Police, said: "This is a horrendous scene. Two young men killed and a young child killed.

"This is as horrible as it gets for officers who attend and my heart goes out to the families."

Police have asked any witnesses to the crash to contact them.
