Homes are flooded in heavy storm

Dozens of people in Derbyshire have called the fire brigade to report flooding in their houses.

Derbyshire Fire and Rescue Service said calls started coming in at about 1530 BST after what a spokeswoman described as a "freak storm" in Matlock.

Officers said it was a difficult situation as drains were blocked and so there was no where to pump the water.

Emergency planners were on their way equipped with sandbags to help assess the situation.

Homes on Brooklea, The Terrace and Metteford Road have been affected by the heavy rain.

A nearby brook has also burst its banks leaving firefighters unable to pump out the water.
