Flooding as water levels rising

Flooding in Ashbourne
The situation is expected to ease overnight

Rising water levels following heavy rainfall has caused serious problems in north Derbyshire.

Several homes were evacuated in Ashbourne and a number of cars were underwater after the River Henmore burst its banks overnight.

Houses have also been flooded in Fenny Bentley and Bradbourne. The nearby A515 has been closed.

Council officials have said that water levels are expected to drop and the situation should ease overnight.

Residents can get sandbags at Ashbourne Fire Station, the Red Lion at Kniveton and the recycling area at Granby Road in Bakewell.

People affected by the flooding can call the Floodline on 0845 988 1188 or the Sandbags call centre on 08456 058 058.

The A6 is also closed between Buxton and Topley Pike. Frisms Lane at Stenson has also been shut due to flooding.

Traffic is moving slowly through Clay Cross because of heavy rainfall.
