'Tunnel vision' transforms subway

A group of Derbyshire residents have transformed vandalised subways into works of art.

Four Derby subways that were a target for crime and graffiti have had murals added to them as part of the Tunnel Vision project.

The four pedestrian subways in Sinfin, Arleston Lane, Grampian Way and near Sinfin shopping precinct were painted by local people.

The work was done to repair the subway walls and clean up the area.

Derby street artist Pete Barber has worked with more than 100 local people at workshops to design the murals.

The art is covered by special anti-graffiti varnish.

Derby Community Safety Partnership's Sharon Booth said: "The Tunnel Vision project was set up in response to concerns raised by local residents about the poor state of the subways - which were effectively no-go areas for many local people."
