Airport passenger numbers go up

Figures released for the number of passengers using East Midlands Airport show air travel has continued to rise.

The latest statistics show 563,159 passengers used the airport during June, a 5% rise compared to the same period last year.

It is the second consecutive month the number of airport passengers has exceeded 500,000.

Penny Coates, the managing director of the airport said they were "delighted" to have reached such figures.

"We are certain that [an additional three] routes will prove very popular and help the airport to continue to outperform the rest of the UK aviation market," she added.
