Cats hurt in pellet gun attacks

A series of attacks on cats, some involving pellet guns, have prompted an appeal from Derbyshire Police.

Officers have asked for information about the incidents which have focused on Florence Avenue, Long Eaton.

Three animals have been hurt with one having been attacked twice - resulting in the loss of an eye and vet's bills of more than £3,000.

As well as causing suffering to animals, someone using a pellet gun could injure a person, officers said.

Mark Pointez said his cat, Casper, had suffered terrible pain and was lucky to be alive.

Bleeding heavily

"The first attack was five weeks ago when Casper had his eye taken out with a blunt instrument.

"I took him straight to the vets and Casper survived, although he was severely traumatised."

A second attack left Casper bleeding badly.

"Again," said Mr Pointez, "I took him straight to the vets and, after many tests and X-rays, three air rifle or BB gun pellets were found; one in his jaw, one in his nose and one in his head."

"I have spent £3,000 on vet's bills, just to keep my pet alive."
